The trouble with insects is that they won’t sit still while you faff around with the camera. Cheek!
Tell me about it! ;). Actually, for a digital compact that didn’t cost an inordinate amount of money, its macro capability isn’t too bad, but naturally you’re very dependent on auto-focus, and, as you commented, the insect staying relatively still as you attempt to photograph it. Never mind, maybe I’ll get really lucky with one of these insect shots one day :). PS. Enjoy the rest of your birthday!.
